Mom got off the nest. It's been in the 90s here lately and egg that she abandoned hatched. Mom doesn't want anything to do with the chick. It's not walking yet... I have it under a light, wrapped in a flannel. I'm keeping the temperature between 97-100 degrees. How do I take care of this chick until it can get around? Thank you for any and all responses!

Keep her warm untill she becomes dry and fluffy. Then keep her under heat lamp or heat plate if you have one.

You'll need a heat lamp, pine shaving bedding, chick starter and a water dish. She'll start eating and drinking in a couple of days.

If no other chicks hatch, you can put a mirror in with the little one.

we had this happen before. does the mom have any other eggs she is sitting on? Try to get her to drink once she is nice and fluffy, just tap her beak in the water but food wont matter for about 2 days. However it is ok if she eats before then

Thank you. I needed a little assurance, never had this happen before! Two of my grandkids saw this chick emerge and now they're very invested. Mom has three other chicks, one adopted, that she's taking care of. What do you think the chances of survival are if I try to slip the new hatchling under her at night in a day or two?

She was setting on 11 but went off the nest yesterday. She relocated to a completely different corner of the coop after kicking the unhatched eggs out of her original nest. Thank you for your response, which I will follow. So far chick is still damp and wobbly.

Once the chick is dry, try to sneak him under her at night. Then monitor in the morning, maybe she'll accept her.
This chick has been under a flannel and a light, temp carefully monitored, for a few hours now. It is still damp, not fluffy at all and still wobbly. Is this normal?
