Brand new to chickens

Welcome to BYC, so glad you've joined us! It can be bit overwhelming if you try to read and learn everything all at once - so take it a bit at a time. Where are you at in your chicken adventure -- just thinking about it, got chicks but need to build a coop, have the coop built but have questions about chickens, etc -- sometimes it helps to pinpoint an immediate question/need for knowledge as a starting point and then following the path to each successive question/stage/etc.

Hello and welcome to BYC.
You'll find lots of info in the Learning Centre - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/category/learning-center.11/ and if you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - http://www.backyardchickens.com/t/270925/find-your-states-thread#post_3239224

Welcome! I'm new to chickens too! Learning ALOT as I go, but that's the fun! What kind are you raising and how many?

Right now, I have 5 12 week old Rhode Island Reds. We have a coop, inside a dog pen, with a roof, as we have many predators in the woods. The day we put up the pen, the chickens weren't even out there yet, we saw a large Fisher nosing around! So my girls are still inside until I am positive it is like Fort Knox!

Thank you so much for the advice!

Welcome to the Backyard chickens flock. You may want to check out the predator threads for more information etc. on safeguarding your flock. Sadly everything loves to eat chickens.
