Hey Everyone!! My family and I recently bought 2 acres and are making a go at a self sufficient farm... obviously chickens will be had and loved and spoiled if my kids have anything to say about it :-) I've got some plans as far as a coop goes, but I'm struggling between a run and tractor... still debating... anyway it will be nice to be able to talk to the experts about all of this. Thanks for having me!!
 
Welcome to BYC. I would lean towards an enclosed run (with cover), as it gives birds freedom to move around and even fly a little if they want to. In a tractor they are usually in a low space and can hardly stand up. Tractors can be knocked over by predators, or they can dig underneath
 
I prefer runs myself, but only have 1/3 acre and can't have a tractor within 15 feet of property lines, so it's more practical for me to have a permanent setup :) Welcome to BYC!

I agree with @drumstick diva . A fortified permanent coop and run is the safest way to go.

Also, IMO it is easier to manage a small flock on 2 acres and easier to plan the location for summer shade and winter protection.

I built mine really close to my house, only about 30 feet off my deck. It makes the daily tending to water, feed and treats so much easier.
When we have freezing weather, it is so much nicer not to have to travel far to keep fresh unfrozen water.
In summer heat, we can see if they are getting heat stressed.

I can see and hear them from inside the house and know if something is disturbing them.
Wouldn't want to miss out on those lovely egg songs or miss the daily antics.

The previous posters have given you some good advice re: runs. That's what I prefer myself. You could build a permanent run for now and down the road, make a portable tractor if you'd like to have a few of your chickens get some yard time.
