Hello, Everyone!

I am really excited to get started reading some egg-laying chickens. I am going to be building a coop on the land and something also fun for my kids to learn responsibility as well.

I have read a decent amount online but was really looking forward to learning from a group of experienced backyard chicken farmers. : )

My questions, what breed of chicken did you start with and where did you by yours. I hear Meyers is good, but I want to know if there other options. Also, if you all suggest the chicks be given vaccinations/antibiotics etc. I had read that someplace offer it before you buy them.

I am excited! Can't wait to share my story the good, the bad and the ugly...mostly good though. : )

I purchased from Meyer twice.
But there are other reputable hatcheries to choose from. I like to look at their Google ratings. That can be telling. Try to pick the hatchery closest to you too minimize time in transit.
I had my chicks vaccinated for Marek's only.
I bought a variety of breeds.
