Yay! Just be careful...hatching is extremely addictive! The good news...you have some folks right in AK that sell hatching eggs.

I can't find a thermometer with a probe, can I use one without? Do I need to put a dish of water for humidity? Haven't found a water wiggler yet, any substitutions?

first...welcome to byc!!

did you go on line to try to find an accurite? I could find one locally but then with two incubators I never did find the second one like the first. It has to have a humidity reader on it. WalMart carries the water wigglers..under a dollar. I have read the dollor stores carry them too? Many folks don't have a humidity guage and hatch. Sorry, I can't advise you as I need one to hatch.

As long as the theromemter is accurate you don't have to have one with a probe. I prefer one though.

Welcome to BYC and happy hatching!

Miss Prissy, I use one with a probe to insert in the water wiggler to measure humidity. If you don't use one..please tell us how to regulate our humidity?? Then I can feel good about using my second incubator!

I use probe therm/hum combos and some without a probe.

Lots of them come without a probe and are just a small unit you stick in the incubator. The reptile ones don't have a probe. Lots of people use flukers. It is just a small black combo and I lay it in the bator. It reads both temp. and hum.
