Prissy, I'm in the NorthCentral part of WV...takes me 2 hours to drive down to Lewisburg and White Sulphur Springs....

Don't worry, I'm on the hunt for a breadbox like that one!...I have one but the front is like a roll up desk...When I use my one and only bator it's always kept in the kitchen on my counter...lol

nice! trust me, wooden incubators work great, my homemade wooden incubator so far has gotten me 3 out of 4 succesfull egg candlings. if you want to copy my idea, LOL here's the link for my bator https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=167858#p167858

I took a steel shell building (30X30, build on concrete) and finished out the inside for a sewing/craft/hideaway for myself. Framed the walls, hung plybond panelling, hung 10' horizontal joists between the existing roof rafters so I could drop in a panel ceiling and put in a laminate floor. I also re-wired the whole building, including replacing an old fuse box with a new circuit box, running a 240/20 amp line for an air conditioner window unit, and ran all new plumbing lines for a toilet and new utility sink.

I did ALL this - including tearing down and reconfiguring the existing partition wall with the help of my then 8yr old son, and a bit of help from the other kids with the painting.

It was probably the hardest physical labor I've ever done (way harder than the 4 non-medicated births of my kids) but one of the projects that I am most proud of. PLUS I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the end results!

I also built this coop for the girls. As soon as I get the run covering finished, they are moving out there and then I'll have room in the chick-N-Barn/run for bantys!

whats the cost of the thermostat, and how much could you ship to NZ for me. can't fid one like it over here.

Will it work on 240 volts

Miss Prissy, Your breadbox is a fantastic idea. Congrats on you ingenuity. I think you are going to love the way your wooden unit holds the heat and performs. The old wooden incubators are reported to outperform the foam ones hands down. You might consider putting a small hole on two side at the bottom. Air Circulation is very important in the process. I have studied the troubleshooting chart and poor air circulation is often listed. I like the idea you have about plugging it if it is not needed. I use fiberfill to plug extra vent holes in my foam unit. It still allows in the air but there is no draft.

I am anxious with you to see how yours works.
