breaking a hens brood stress-free

^I agree, that is probably the least stressful way to break the broodiness.
It should get the job done in the shortest number of days, and physically I would expect it to be less stressful than things like cool baths (being wet is not usually good for chickens!)

Here is an article about that same idea, with pictures:

Walking around and eating are fine, as long as she is not sitting on a nest. So I think you can take her out of the crate to do that as many times each day as you want. Just put her back in the wire crate at night and any time you are not watching her.

Yes, broodies are like that. She should go back to normal once she quits being broody, which is a good reason to break her as quickly as possible.

Those sound like very good ideas when you are home and she is just thinking about becoming broody. AC is probably a good idea then and now, but now that she is thoroughly broody you probably will need the wire crate method to get her broken in a timely fashion. Getting it done quickly will probably mean less total stress, as compared with any method that takes more time.
Ok will keep this in mind! And yea I think cold bathes would be too stressful for her, I’ll let her outside tomorrow or on the second day cause putting her back in the cage might be a bit difficult if she’s still acting broody, not sure if this was the right option but I decided to keep her broody jail cage in my room rather than outside because I want her belly to cool also it’s too hot outside for her right now
Thanks!

Or just give her an egg?
Sorry I don’t think that’s the best thing to do right now I don’t have a rooster and there isn’t a place I know of to buy fertilised eggs plus she isn’t taking care of herself well with the weather here she can probably hatch them but I don’t know if she’ll be a good mom she might be but if she isn’t I’ll have to raise them but I’m starting school soon and it’s my last year of high school so I’m gonna be busier than usual plus 3 tuitions so I don’t have time also I don’t have the space for them and I’m fixing my room right now so I can’t keep them anywhere, she also made her nest in my room instead of the nesting box (she’s the only one who can get in from cat door after she’s done playing cuz she spoiled and for avoiding heatstrokes)
I considered it but I think I’ll just break her brood maybe I would’ve if it was the start of summer break I feel a little bad but hopefully in the future I can let her be a mom
thanks

Omg what I would give to have air con in my pouallier. I mentioned it to hubby and he nearly fell off his chair ! (One point for me though coz I’ve been trying to get it installed for years and hubby is an installer !) But I guess in Bahrain it’s necessary.
Back to broodies -
I have a dog cage (large) positioned on four upside down plant pots so it’s not touching the floor. I have two bowls that hook onto the side of the cage for food and water.
The broody girl goes in there at the first sign.
If I manage to catch it early she can be let out in 3 days.
However if she heads back to the nesting box she’s back in the slammer for another 3 days.
And so it continues.
I believe the trick is to make sure air circulates around her and she can’t nest. When it was over 40c here I put her on our terrace which stays in the shade with a fan pointed near her. Not on her but just trying to get the air moving.
It does look awfully cruel but it’s kinder than leaving her hot and confused, not eating and drinking and so very unhappy.
Hugz
We had one of those portable ac things it’s really old but it’s does the job but it is way too fat lool I wanna save up for a good one to make them really happy ❤️
I used a big bird cage cause that what I had in the backyard I guess it does the job also there space in bird cages that makes the cage lifted from the ground so I think that’s good not sure if it’s enough couldn’t find a roost that fits the cage so I’m gonna look for one or steal some wood from my dad lol
hopefully she goes back to normal soon because I miss cuddling her
Thanks!
