Breaking the Law

Jeez, we are BAAAAAAAAD! Heck I got about more than seven full grown pullets and tons of juvies and chicks out of my ears LOL. Most of them got a waiting list for good homes or kids in 4H.

I say go for it!

I can not say when was the last time a president had a chicken in their backyard. At the top of my head, I must say.....um, Theodore Roosevelt????? He got ponies and horses in his White House grounds.....good question tarazod!

I do believe the US Constitution guarantees the right to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness", and chickens make us happy, so denying us chickens is violating our constitutional rights, right? As well as the liberty of raising our own eggs/food, and the "life" of the chickens as well as our own healthier lives? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, revolution of the chicken owners?!

I say go for it! Keep it discreet, clean and share some eggs with your neighbours.

Governments have no right to tell us we can't feed ourselves, although they are trying to make us all interdependent. THE UN will someday tell us we can't grow our own food as that would be selfish and individualistic of us all.... not part of the collective.

Our rights and freedoms were won when our ancestors stood up and said no to unfair laws and despotism.

"When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty."

Thomas Jefferson

High wooden fences make great neighbors. Then no one can see how many you have at one time. If someone ask then plead the 5th amendment. But never volunteer any info.

I really think that law enforcement has more important things to do than bust people for a few extra hens, esp. when they would have to search your place to find them. There really shouldn't be much to worry about.

My MIL has chickens, quail, doves, and about 7 Barbary sheep. Right in town. I don't think they're allowed, but no one minds, so no one bothers her.

I'm breakin the law as far as I know, darn it

I haven't actually checked our local laws, but honestly, since mine is indoors anyway, I don't really care. I know some other people who have "hidden" chickens here in town. My only problem is that my nieghbor across the street is the idiot that works for the town

He wrote a letter when we first moved in because I hadn't had a chance what with being pregnant and all to get out and mow in a timely fashion. You know...all my tall grass and noxious weeds! HA

It wasn't even that bad. But, he drives around Bronson EVERY week and makes a list of people who haven't mowed and then sends them notices. It's such a pain. The guy is an oogler too. The one time he came over to offer his "city services" he just stood there and oogled my breasts the WHOLE time!!!! And I was just wearing a t-shirt!!!! Not like I was weeding the garden in a bikini or anything...

So, I say, rules were meant to be broken! If worse comes to worse you can always start up a movement to change the laws in your town. You might be surprised to find that many others want to have more chickens as well.

With mine, even though the law states it is a farm animal, they're gonna have a hard time making it out that way when it lives inside and wears diapers! LMAO We'll just have to wait and see how this all goes.
