Hello! First time posting here, was hoping for some advice on this
One of my calls is breathing heavily. She's eating/drinking/pooping/laying just fine and has been acting normal but still breathing hard even while shes just standing. This has been going on for a few days now but its only just today that she seems to be less energetic and not keeping up with the others like usual

Some details for background:
-She hatched June of last year, and began laying an egg every day or two starting on the 18th of this month
-She is the only one in her flock of 3 having this issue
-They've been living in the house for the past month since a different duck was injured and its too cold for them to go back out now
-They are fed layer pellets with added grit and given peas and mealworms every day

Has anyone else had this problem in their flock? Does this look like something that needs a vet visit? Any thoughts or advice appreciated

Layer pellets are formulated for chickens and lack some nutrients that ducks need, namely niacin, as well as being lower in protein than a waterfowl feed.

Switch feeds and offer oyster shell separately, go for at least 18% protein, and supplement with niacin to get her back up to snuff.

Also, what kind of bedding are you using? Hay has too much dust so should be avoided, and since ducks are messy little buggers any type of bedding when kept indoors should be at least cleaned and topped up to avoid mold (you may not even see it).

Hope this helps! And :welcome

Good to know! We use a mix of aspen shavings and fine cut straw, usually changed out every other day or daily depending on how messy they decide to be

Wondering if it was something simple as a little bit of clogged nostrils? We gave her a warm bath to sit in last night and she is doing just fine now today. Huge relief, little duck had us so worried 😁
