Breed and Gender Guess - 3 weeks old

Sometime the more you try, the more confused you get. When I first started raising chicks, made myself crazy

Read up on different methods, kept records on my guesses but it made me dizzy

Now I just enjoy until they're about 4 - 6wks before I start noticing the comb/wattle growth/color, that seems to work the best for me.

Okay 6 weeks now! Any idea? I am still at a loss, although #3 is very Roo like I think, every time I pull out the camera its up in the way necked stretched out to reach it, very curious, not like the rest.

LUCKY YOU, they all look like PULLETS to me

but the next 2wks will tell. I don't see any redding of their combs/wattles which still may happen. Love the coloring (partial to blues/lavenders) on #1 & #6, I had an EE that looked like #4, she was sweet & very curious...

I maybe wrong with my guesses, more should be peeping and waiting to see what everyone has to say.

Really? You think all pullets? I will be very happy if that turns out to be the case!

#4 and #5 are the sweetest, they don't run from me anymore and even love a few pets. #2 and #6 are still pretty skittish around me, but I am working on them

It's just my personal guess at this age but EEs are "harder" to sex even at 8wks, some are late bloomers. Keep a close eye on their comb/wattles these next 2wks, watch for redness and growth. Also watch how their feathering on their necks (hackle) and above their tail (saddle) develop....Cockerels hackles are thin/slim compared to Pullets and their saddle feathers thinner & flow like a water fall (don't know how else to explain). Check out pictures of cockerels and full grown ones, taking not of their hackle & saddle feathering.

Yours are EE mixes, EEs I've had have pea combs....#2, 3, 6 look like single combs, #1 can't see, #4, 5 look like pea combs. Could you post pics of their combs? Post pics again at 8wks, I'm following cause I'd like to know how my guessing methods turn out. Almost positive #1 & 6 are pullets, then again I'd want to keep them (coloring), ha ha. They all have pretty coloring, have had a few with #4 coloring.

THANK YOU for keeping me posted, I've guessed in the past and never know how things turn out

The best I could get today, not everyone wanted to stay still long enough to get a good close picture.

I also found it frustrating to be reading up on past threads and "guessing" not never know if I am right! I will keep this thread updated :)

Appreciate you keeping this updated, subscribing so I will learn with you what you end up with

All still looking Pullets to me, #4 comb has some color but looks like one row to it's pea comb = pullet in my book. Keep me posted, yes it does get frustrating but have learned not to try guessing too often. I guess around 4wks, check again at 6wks and then 8wks.....Then the chicks go back to the breeder, I raise her hatches until 6 - 8wks. A lot of work but fun & think it helps fine tuning my guessing game
