You can have bad apples with any breed. I have three Speckled Sussex that are mean as hell to my other chickens and many would claim they are the friendliest chickens you can get. It seems with me that my birds never fit the personalities that you read about on the net.
I believe it just depends on the individual birds. Just pick out the large fowl sized breeds you want as day old chicks and raise them together. I feel doing that is more important than trying to find two or more breeds that get along with one another.
