Breed? Gender?

The last photo is really spooky looks like the bird has a hand coming out of the top of it's comb. I don't think I want to know what mixes are behind it.

LOL @Diva

Yes, you do have some of the wildest comb genetics going on there.

When you take something like a pea comb and breed with a single comb, you can get some funk. If you take a walnut or rose and breed with a v-comb, I think you could produce some pretty crazy results.

But if you take a crown comb with a v-comb, I bet you could get that crazy comb on the tufted bird.

Did the breeder have Sicilian Buttercup and Polish? A black polish would dominate the color base, leave some tuft, give the body type, while the Sicilian Buttercup (crown) and Polish (v-comb) combs together might produce something as crazy as on that bird.

As to the other, that looks to be a rose (?) but not the rose of a typical Wyandotte. I can believe Wyandotte something as it has dark legs and dark around the face. Wyandottes have yellow legs and yellow skin.

My best guesses.
Fun birds no matter what.

They're both pullets, and cute little things.

I think the V comb bird has Polish in the mix. The other bird could have silkie a generation or so back. If someone's been letting mixed breed mixes, your birds are pretty much what I'd expect to see. They should be decent layers of smallish tan eggs, and likely to set if your'e so inclined to let them brood chicks some spring.

Thank you! I am really liking them, they are getting used to the new area here, and they add a nice little spark to my sort of bland flock lol. I hope they start laying soon!

I agree...I was thinking the Wyandotte mix might have some Silkie too but several generations back as the full black face and extra toes and leg fluff have all disappeared.
