breed help!! possible cochin? *UPDATED PICS*

19hhbelgian, I was going down the list of Feather Legged Bantams in the American Standard of Perfection book, and it list's white faverolles there? Doesn't list blue there, just salmon and white?

I'm looking at the large fowl cochin chicks page on Feathersite, and I still think it could be a white cochin.

http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/CGA/Cochins/BRKCochChix.html

I'd lean toward the light brahma or the white langshan or a white or buff cochin (if it's more yellow than white). Guess you'll have to wait and see!!

It has yellow skin pigmentation. You can rule out Langshan.

It lacks the pea comb of the Brahma, you can rule that out as well.

Edit: Not all Cochins have heavy leg feathering. Especially those that come from hatcheries. Remember, they do not breed towards the standard.

"Did I miss how old it is? My cochins legs looked a lot like that when they were little (up to 4 weeks old)."

I agree with this one. I have a hatchery red cochin and her leg feathering is poor. HOWEVER she is a great mama. But by the head shape my guess is it's likely a mix of some sort. Cochins have a more square shaped head if that makes sence... hard to explain

I think it IS a cochin and quite confidently, but maybe a very light Buff or a splash. Like I said, the whites are gray when they are chicks and their feathering comes in white. But I also see a faint black fleck on top of its head and behind its eye.
I would say give it about until 5-weeks and then take pictures again.

A week and a half later .... we have black feathers! Any new/more obvious opinions since the change?
