Hi,
I am trying to plan for my first flock this month, and I’m concerned that I may select breeds that may not be compatible...
I’m looking to purchase Buff Orpingtons and Gold Laced Wyandottes. Six chicks of each.
I’m looking for these birds as layers only, and I would like calm and friendly birds that may interact with me and my grandkids.....
Do you feel that these two breeds are compatible?
Thanks!!!

I don’t have any gold laced Wyandotte’s, but I have buff Orpingtons, black Australorps, Easter Eggers, speckled Sussex, barred rocks, and red sex links together with no problems. I don’t think you would have any issues with those together. I have 6 buff orpingtons, and they are the sweetest, calmest, most loving birds. I walk over and all the chickens come running over with the buff orpingtons in the lead (nugget in front). I absolutely love them. Also, at the farm I work at, we have 2 gold laced Wyandottes, and they are very sweet loving birds. They are in with Dominiques without an issue.
So in short, I definitely think these birds would do great with each other, and with proper socializing, they will be great pets. Also, my buffs are great layers.
