Breed? Just plain EE? And what color?

Today's pic. :)

I would love to get more, but as you can probably tell from my pictures, we are doing urban chickens. We can only have so many within the city limits, so getting them from a hatchery, due to their minimum shipping requirements is a no go. :-(. I was lucky the breeder thought of me when we stopped by!

Hmm. Actually, I got a bunch of EEs from Meyer this year, and none had any blue at all. All the ones I got from Murray McMurray had a lot of blue and red in them, however.
The law of average is a funny thing. You could order 100 and only end up with 1 or 2 or none. Sometimes quite the opposite. I was simply stating my experience. There are a lot of breeders in the Ohio area that carry that color. The same breeders that supply local hatcheries.

To the op- that is an easter egger not an ameraucana. Here you can learn more about true ameraucanas. www.ameraucana.org . She is not a silver duckwing that is not even one of the accepted colors, somebody might be working on it as a color project but even then it would still be considered an EE

If someone was to cross a blue wheaton with a silver, a blue silver duckwing could very well be a result.... or other possible crosses between accepted colors. That would still be an americauna.

Many many people on the ameraucana thread would argue with you about it still being an ameraucana. Ex. if you cross a buff with a blue you no longer have a pure color, therefore you no longer have an ameraucana. It has been discussed over there. i have never heard of anyone crossing those and getting that. So are saying every chick hatched look the same?

that would be impossible for the first generation. I'm saying that an americauna of an odd color only disqualifies it from show. It doesn't change the breed. How else do they get new colors?

I am not going to express my opinion on the subject, more than I have. All I have to say is It takes years to get a new color accepted. They is a process they have to got through and requierments that have to be met. Some one dosent just wake up and decide they are going to cross a bunch of colors and it will be a accepted color variety.

No one said anything about an accepted color. Its simply calling it the color it is. If it was red i'd call it red....

But then it would be considered a red Easter Egger, not an Ameraucana.

It can work the same for some breeds of horses. You can cross a Standardbred mare and a Standardbred stallion and if you got a colt that can't trot a mile in 2:30, it couldn't be considered a Standardbred. You can cross two registered Rocky Mountain Horses and if the foal doesn't have proper breed characteristics (someone actually comes and checks) then the foal can't be registered. Those are decisions made at the level of the breed association that issues the registrations.

For good or bad the Ameraucana Breeders Association has decided that Ameraucanas only come in certain colors, and if they aren't those colors, they aren't Ameraucanas. If you think that's wrong, then your best bet is to get on the board of the Association and change the rule. In the meantime, non-standard colors of Ameraucanas are considered Easter Eggers.
