So this is not your every day "What breed is this?" thread. I found this antique copper printing block while I was out this weekend (for just 7 bucks, score!), and I curious to know what breed of hen is pictured. My best guess is a Barred Rock, what do y'all think?

nice find!

Can't tell on the comb 100% but the body definately looks Rock-like, so I'm saying barred rock. Nice score!

I think I agree with the majority here. The comb looks pretty small in the engraving, but I don't think it's a rose comb. Also I think she's too zaftig to be a dominique, haha. Time to make stationery!

If it's antique, it's probably not a specific breed, but rather what was referred to as a "Dominecker" type bird. Back in the day, folks weren't too careful with their BRs and Dominiques, and crossing was rampant.

I think another poster was on here last week with an antique photograph of her grandmother with the same type of bird in the picture. Heavy Rock body, but rose-combed. Interesting stuff!
