Easter Egger, I think... There are so many to choose from!

Chanteclers. They're a wonderful heritage breed that are good producers of eggs and meat. They're also quite well suited to northern climate.

My Easter Eggers! I bred in some Barred Rock into my hatchery sourced Easter Eggers a few years ago to boost their laying rate. The results, 2 years of selective breeding later, have produced very large, fast growing cockerels. Cockerels are pretty obvious at just 3 to 4 weeks old. Pullets lay about 6 eggs a week till their first adult molt, and they molt so gradually that egg production doesn't completely stop.

How old are your Easter eggers when they started laying?

Between 20 and 25 weeks old, if kept on starter/grower till onset of lay. If switched to layer feed before onset of lay, it's closer to 30 weeks.
