Breed Question: Marans or not?

Definetly a split for gold on the first bird... Don't know what they are... could be crossed birchen of unknown origin... Not quality regardless... (as purebreds) the second looks like an andelusian crossing to me... very gamey tail carriage.. Cute cross roosters that are lovely to look at... thanks for posting.. the way to tell if they are marans is in the female offspring... darker than normal egg tint.. Even if they both were purebred... it does not guaratee the color genetics in the offspring... there is black birchen in other breeds as well...

Thanks everyone! I think they are very pretty too. I was going to replace them with French BCM from my hatching efforts, but my OH said no...he loves them, especially the red one.

I actually do have 2 EE hens in with the birchen and one just started laying. Yay! I have a caboodle(dozen) of ee and oe in my inky, first time I've ever incubated anything, but so far so good. 3 out of 32(also a dozen frizzle, sizzle,silkie) were clear....rest look real good on day 10

. I also slipped some of my rock girl's eggs in there, they are in with the birchen too. Couldn't resist putting in my Seabright's little eggs, she been making house with my cochin roos. So its pins and needles waiting for babies. Expecting chicks, expecting bunnies and expecting a labradoodle puppy(yes just one). I feel like to maternity ward...lol.
