Breed Question: White Leghorns??

I have 12 white leghorns and outside of their absolute flightyness, they are great birds. I love how regal the roo is. He prances around like he owns the place. And, BTW, they started laying (the first one) at 19 weeks and now that they are all laying, they all lay most every day. I have one bird that never lays and probably never will, but I get 10 eggs a day, almost every day. Cold or not, 10 eggs. Big white beautiful eggs. Big fan of the leghorns.

Oh, I almost forgot. DON"T put other chicks with them, especially meat chicks. They peck anything pink. They peck anything bloody. They peck anything different that is introduced. They are mean to other birds. One generation, at a time and nothing with a defect. I came out of the house one day and they had trapped a meat chick against a wall and pecked a wing off. I was not a fan then. Those are the rules and then they seem fine. A friend introduced 5 week old leghorns to grown EEs and everything is kosher. I wouldn't try that the other way around.

All I have are white leghorns. My roo is a real sweetheart. He comes up to me and lets me pick him up and follows me around the house everywhere I go. But..my dad is a different story. My roo hates my dad. He will attack him if he tries to pet him. His girl is the same as him. She will also follow me around the house, and when I bring them in they love to sit on my lap on the couch and watch Animal Planet. But in the end all leghorns are different. BTW we are adding more white ones to the flock now

Then white leghorns wouldn't be for you. We have just one (my sons) and she is very flighty. She has never been mean or aggressive, but HATES to be handled. My nephew also has leghorns (around 20 of them) and they don't have any desire to be handled either. His roos have also been very nasty, especially to the little kids.

If you are looking for a different breed to expand your flock with, but want them to be pets, this breed might not be the ticket for you.

i have a handful of white leghorns,, i got the girls after they were laying age,, they started laying here the very first day, and havent stopped, they lay better then all my other birds,,,,, the king of the hill is my white leghorn roo,, he does what a roo is suppose to do,, he will protect the flock with his life against ANYTHING, or anyone.
i have hawks overhead most of the day every day,, and it doesnt seem to pick the whites out any different then any other bird.
