I had a drake on unknown origin, (ie. he was given to us as a hatchling) and I've never been sure of what breed he might have been. He sadly disappeared to predators earlier this summer. I don't appear to have any photos of him, but I'm hoping someone can give me a few ideas as to what breed he might have been.
He was a shade over buff in color and smooth in color, almost no variation at all. We named him Sable because of his coloring. Definitely a drake, but no darker head coloring. I've always assumed he was a Buff Orp, but his head color never darkened, so I wasn't sure if that was a thing. He was about the same size as my Cayuga hen.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? I wish I had photos to show what his coloring looked like.

Did he look like this?

Yes, duck. I thought it was crazy too, but there is a Buff Orp breed of ducks. They come from the same area in England.
I would say he was slightly lighter brown than your photo and did not have the dark head like the drake in the photo. Are those Khaki Campbell? I've considered them, except the photos of them all seem to have lots of detail in the feathering. He was a young boy, but size-wise, he was growing about the same rate as the Cayuga or my Rouen hens, but slower than my Pekins.
I know I'm not helping my case by not having a photo of him and now that he's gone, it doesn't matter much. But he was pretty and I would consider getting another.
