Hi, I am getting chickens, the females will be Wyandotte's but does anyone have any rooster breed suggestions? They should be able to deal with colder temps because I live in CT. Thanks! :cd

there are some great rooster breeds out there and I cant really say there any u should not get, except rhode island are known for being aggressive.

My three all time favorite roosters would have to be Orpingtons, Cochins, and Brahmas.

Wyandotte roosters have also been known to be on the aggressive side.

I have a game fowl mix and he's great with his girls and tolerates us humans too. We have a buff cochin who is the meanest rooster I've come in contact with, he's actually heading to the freezer soon, makes me sad because we heard great things about Cochins. I also have a few rooster chicks who are 8 weeks and so far my favorites are my barred rocks, dominiques, and light brahma. They don't seem to be as aggressive with each other and the other chicks as some of the other Roos.

Hello and welcome! I am pretty partial to my Ameraucana Roo, he is a good boy and not too mean. Copper Maran Roo's are really beautiful too! I am sure whatever you decide will be great, the breeds all have tendencies, but each bird has their own personality.

What purpose do you want the rooster to serve? That will influence what breed would be a good fit.

If you don't need a rooster for breeding don't get one. Roosters stress out my girls and are aggressive to the girls who are low in the pecking order. I just got rid of my rooster today, now my hens can relax and lay me some eggs. I am talking about my experience only, I am sure there are thousands of heartwarming stories about other people's wonderful roosters. Best of luck to you and your flock..
