Breed Science-- making a new breed.

why do we need more breeds? there arent enough dedicated breeders now to improve or sustain the breeds we have now. it takes time , knowledge, and much culling to create a new breed. in a few years, if that long, you will have a new hobby because this wont turn out how you think

Why are you being a party pooper? So what, I want to try something new. You can't tell me what to do.

Because not everyone wants to breed what is avaliable here. And how do you know that people are going to just drop it in a few years because they hit some bumps in the road?

Mutchi I would advise you not to start a breeding project until you are older. I remember reading that your parents don’t want you calling vets for sick animals. All of this will cost a lot of money, and if something goes wrong you have to have a plan to take care of illnesses.
I'm not starting the breeding right away, I'll just be doing research and stuff then, I will start working on breeds.

There's no reason that a new breeding project would be worse than any other breeding project, or worse than having chickens and hatching eggs without a specific project.

What if you breed a Phoenix to a Sumatra then breed their offspring to a heritage jersey giant then breed that offspring to a brahma?
The constant crossing won’t work. What you’re trying to make will take 8 generations to get what you want. And will probably also take lots of time space and resources. Super mixes take a long amount of time to display traits from all their parents. And even after that only 20 chicks in the end might actually inherit all the traits. Worse part is if you want these hybrids to be a perfected breed you’ll need several separate specimens of each breed you’re using and raise 4 separate clutches of such hybrids that don’t share the same parents or grandparents to prevent them from inbreeding too much in order to make them perfect and genetically stable. I’m sometimes forced to use ugly common farm breeds as genetic stabilizers. This tends to produce hybrids that don’t have a very good appearance but also lack genetic side effects. Even for my pure bred fancy breeds I often do this to produce better future generations. I’ve used common feral Kurdish fowl and Rhode Island Red specimens to hybridize with my jet black brahmas. The hybrids I kept are the ones that look more like black brahmas, then I breed them again with pure brhamas that aren’t related to them, this is my secret ingredient to producing healthier stronger and smarter pure jet black brahmas. The third gen look exactly like any normal jet black brahmas but they are usually larger more active and lay more eggs. The only problem is how aggressive they are compared to their great grand parents.
