Breed Science-- making a new breed.

The constant crossing won’t work. What you’re trying to make will take 8 generations to get what you want. And will probably also take lots of time space and resources. Super mixes take a long amount of time to display traits from all their parents.
I'm starting young, I have five acres, I don't care about time, I need something to occupy me during the boring years.

It will work to give you chicks, but not ones with consistent traits!

To get some kind of consistency, it's probably more efficient to cross two breeds, interbreed the offspring and get them breeding true for the traits that matter, and then cross in something else. (Of course, you can be doing this with several sets of 2 breeds at once, so the "something else" you cross in is descended from two other breeds.)

I have been thinking of a new breed. It's a breed were mostly all roosters are the muscular, brave ones we all like. I want to hear your opinions. I'm hoping good opinions.... I have only so much breeds to start with. I will first need a large rooster to start. I currently don't have. I want to call it the BFG (big friendly giant. Totally not based off of a movie)

Hey, all the best for your new breed! I'm commenting here so I can get updates 😊

I'm currently in process of creating a new breed too, albeit for a different reason and slightly different standard. So check it out. Has a bit of genetics involved too

Love that your trying to make a new one, buy you won't get updates from Mutchi. She left.

I just want to throw this out there about what her oringinal "idea" was, but Favorolles are pretty big and have a funny, owlish face.

How about this?

That's unfortunate!

Yes they are! I love their beards and how it makes their combs stick out. They're quite clumsy sometimes too. Their run 😀
I'm using them for a probable beard, unless it makes their vision bad alongside a small hopefully forward pointing crest (unvaulted) from a spitzhauben, and the size of a mid sized brahma but still active foragers. Fingers crossed.
