For those of us with mixed flocks, have any of you noticed that all the chickens of a certain breed will exhibit a certain behavior? Now I still think these cases are coincidental, but it's worth noting.

All four of my Sussex hens are not averse to drinking olive oil. I was giving some to Spex (a Sussex hen of mine) and was curious to see who else would take some. I let anyone who dared try a small bit. The other three Sussex hens all took a bit.

My two Orpingtons stayed away and were averse to the olive oil.

My Ameraucanas and Australorps didn't care.

One Barred Rock was interested, while the other was averse.

In addition, both of my Orpingtons will only take a liquid I administer at nighttime.

Just curious,

Slayden

What you are observing may apply to all different species of all animals as well as people.
I have 3 dogs (all different breeds) and each has a slightly different preference on food and treat. They all will eat meat..:gig
If you notice,, people around the world have different likes and taste preferences as well. What a certain group likes is not really favored by another.
Your chickens just fall into this preference crowd as well. :thumbsup

My games are decidedly more inclined to fly over things and explore elaborate routes to find food or escape dog kennels lacking a cover. The games will also fly over weedy fields, sometimes in flights over several hundred feet while American Dominiques will walk. Latter can not sustain such flights. The games engage in hawking where they move about back and forth in an open area where they catch insect forage that keeps replenishing itself within seconds such as what you see with drifting crane flies and emerging May Beetles and reproductive ants.

Games tame and train much easier than any breed I have messed with.

Good explanation. I was mainly curious if anyone else had the same sort of thing happen.
