breed splash to splash

Are you sure you aren't me?

LOL Actually I'm every Silkie breeder there is. We all know how easily it happens.

so can someone tell me or refer me to a place that lists what color bred to what color produces what colors and percentages? I saw this on here before but now I cant find it again. I have a splash and a blue, and 2 white silkies.

splash X blue will give you 50% of each

white X white will give you white

white X anything non-white is unpredictable, although if bred to splash, all offspring will have a copy of blue.

what about blacks? If you breed blue to blue, will you get 50% blue? And black to splash? I'm curious!

Blue x Blue = 25% splash, 50% Blue, 25% black
black X splash = 100% Blue

Specifically to Sonoran or another actual Genetics expert------

Is there any benefit to breeding splash to splash? I was taught that it wasn't a good idea & have seen why, but would love an expert opinion.

Thanks!

Hi yes you can breed splash to splash but if you keep crossing the generations ie chicks the color will get more washed out or the splashes dilute....also if you keep a splash rooster which has very black splashes and actually has more black then you would show you can cross him on your diluted chicks to help bring up the color....adding a blue makes for nice splashes and usually a lighter blue ...I have a mature boy who is not a show bird because he has that heavy black splashing but he is to use to cross on my lighter girls....hope that helps...Chris
