If , as someone pointed out, you are interested in a particular breed only. I always have the 1998 Standards at my desk. I have , in the past, typed almost verbatim , what is in the Standard for persons looking for that information.
So , if its only one breed , please name it and we will be glad to help. Also if you have pictures , you can post them here and we can let you know the good and the bad.
Pictures for the purpose of judging breed standard should
1. have a good frontal shot , clearly showing comb placement , width of chest.
2. side view , with head at normal position , this will show back length and tail angle.
3. camera above the bird shooting down, looking for bird width.
4. rear view , again bird width.
5. Leg shot , clearly seeing toes, leg color and feathering , if any.
That should be enough so we can get you started.
You can also bring your best bird to a APA approved show. AFTER, the show, you will find most of the judges very helpful. The other breeders will probably talk to you as well, once they are done preparing their birds.
Dont feel bad if your birds dont do well, the first bird I brought to a show was disqualified for not having a point on the end of its rose comb. However, I learned much and met some really fine folks.
