Breed Suggestions

Haven't really considered Austratlops - I will do more research on them. There is a breeder near by that has cream leg horns as well. Anyone have any experience with this breed?

legbar - sorry:)

No need to be sorry, just wanted to be sure we were all answering to the right chicken as giving you information on the wrong breed would do you little good. Cream Legbars produce lovely colored eggs. One advantage of them is that they are auto-sexing, meaning that they can be sexed at hatch due to differences in the appearance of male and female chicks....so no "oops" cockerel surprises.

Thanks for all the information. It is very helpful. Likely we are going to end up with one other breed this year and then add an additional next spring. We are beginning our homesteading experience and want to make sure we plan for growth and long term needs. The Isa Brown's are very sweet - but we really didn't know much about them other than they were egg layers. We do want our chicken's to free range as much as possible, and they are super fun to watch even at this young age. We also want don't want to depend on getting pullets very year for our flock. There is so much to learn.
