"best" is subjective -best in pure number of eggs? Or are you looking for best consistent production of a particular size of egg? The best bird for solid production in a given climate (if so, what type of climate)? Most efficient feed to egg conversion?
There are several breeds that would come in just under the named breeds for pure number of eggs - barred rock, Sussex, Australorp, Rhode Island Red, Delaware, etc. However, there are other factors that would go into whether they would be producing at their best in a particular environment that might make one breed "better" producers in a given flock.
