Breed?

Lansing, mi but when I contacted them they told me they came from a sister hatchery in Missouri
Among their listed "rare breeds" are olive eggers. Which aren't actually a breed. They don't advertise Phoenix (though still possible). Did you just order "rare chickens" or did you specify a breed? I'm wondering if you might have more than one breed.

They were a rare breed assortment. They said there could be color variations of the same breed or different breeds. I ordered 15 birds and they sent 18. I lost one to pasted butt.

So I emailed the chick hatchery and they gave me a list of possibilities:. Leg bar, Olive eggers, brown leghorn, speckled Sussex, ee, barnevelder, or welsummer for the colored chicks. The white chick possibilities given were: leg horn, white Rock, chantcler, Austra whites or marans.

Assorted Rare Breeds are our choice of Rare Breeds that we offer. We will try our best so that you will receive a good mix and variety. You will only receive breeds from our Rare Breeds Category. Different colors of the same breed will be counted as separate varieties. This assortment is hatchery choice and we are unable to record or mark the included breeds. When ordering an assortment from The Chick Hatchery, the best part is identifying your new chicks. If you are unable to identify right when they arrive, wait until they start to get feathers and identifying features. We do have photos of the birds on our web page and some breeds have photos of the chicks.

Barnevelder—Yellow legs. Yours have slate. No.
Black Laced Red Wyandotte—no.
Buff Brahma—no.
Black Sumatra—no.
Polish—no.
Columbian Wyandotte—no.
Buckeye—nope. Peacombs rather than straight.
Olive Egger—most likely possibility I see. Especially for that silver cockerel.
Marans—Advertised as "french Marans" Which means that they should have light feathering on the legs. Does he?
Dark Brahma—no. Peacombs vs straight combs.
Dominique—no.
Ameraucana—no.
Light Brahma—no.
Rhode Island White—this breed is supposed to have rose combs. Also, yellow legs. No.
Salmon Faverolle—No.
Cochins—no.
Speckled Sussex—yellow legs. No.
Houdan—crested. No.
Lakenvelder—nope.
Spitzhauben—crested. No.
Chantecleer—pea combs, unless really poorly bred. No.
White Sultan—Crested. No.
Turken—no.
Welsummer—possible, for the gold ones.

Oops. Didn't read this post.

EDT: If Austra Whites and Leghorns are rare, I've been deeply misinformed my entire life. Leghorns have yellow legs. White rocks have yellow legs. Austra Whites are a crossbreed, but can have slate legs. Chantecleers have pea combs, Marans should have feathered legs.

Brown leghorns yellow legs. Legbars should be crested, and wrong colour anyway. Olive eggers fit some of the profile, but usually have green legs rather than slate. Speckled Sussex Yellow Legs. EEs are just less fancy olive eggers. Barnevelders have yellow legs. Welsummers have yellow legs.

I haven't seen any feathers on leg/feet.

So most likely eeggers? I thought they weren't an actual breed?
Thank you for the info!!

I think it is most likely that you got EEs/OEs. They're not a breed, but they're still often sold as a rare breed, by most of the major hatcheries. I'm not sure why (Does it really cost more to hatch an actual rare breed chick? If it's a question of breeding stock, why not just hatch more eggs to get more breeders?)

I'll tag @JedJackson and @Gray Farms for a second opinion; they're much better at this than I am.

Do all of your chickens look like this?

You're welcome.

Yes they all look like the pics I posted. If they are all ee's/oe's I'm not sure what to think. They are beautiful birds no matter what breed but I'll be sad that my kid won't know what breed to say at the fair but we'll have beautiful eggs to sell lol
