breeder

Here's a post I made last year that may be of some help to you in getting started:

???'s on becoming a backyard breeder

We've decided to wait on our "project" until after we move to the family farm in Arkansas. We'll have 30 acres of level to rolling land to work with as opposed to our rented 2 acres of hillside here.

I hope this is some help and best wishes with your venture!

Oh dear Lord... what I could do with 30 acres!!! I'm so jealous!

Chickenman, I'm doing just what you're asking about... all I can say is read lots, ask a lot of questions, and research your chosen breeds very carefully. Get a copy of the APA's Standards of Perfection, and study it, especially if you're going to show your birds. We're still in the "chicklet" stages, and I'm reading and talking about this very subject as much as possible. Good luck with your venture! It's so rewarding!
