I'm trying to search on the forum for breeders in my area/state. I'm not finding much. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm not partial to any one breed yet. Just want to see what's around here.
Where exactly are you? I have an acquaintance who knows of someone who breeds blue Laced Red Wyandottes around here, but as far as I know that's about it within day trip distance for me.
There are lots of great breeders in the NW. Look at the breed index and find birds you'd like to raise. That could help give you a direction to start. IMHO...you can't go wrong with Ameraucanas!
Also, you can always incubate eggs and order them from all over the country. That's the best way to get everything you are looking for without spending a ton of money. Something to think about....
Go to the meet ups section and look for the Oregon Spring Swap in Canby that is on the 23 of this month. There are breeders crawling out of the woodwork, doing 5-6 pages of notes a day, planning on what they are taking to the swap and what they are buying. Oregon is full of very nice poultry breeders.
There is also a hatchery near Portland that is supposed to have decent enough hatchery stock, but lousy shipping. But you could go and pick birds up.
If you are interested in exhibition ducks or geese, one of the leading experts on ducks and geese is in Philomath, near Corvallis.
The swap in Canby isn't all that terribly far from you. You might consider going, just to meet people.
There's an Oregon chicken swap, lots of us are attending.
I'm a breeder up north of you in Washington, some of my birds are going to that swap (but only the ones actually already called for) however I do ship hatching eggs, and I do meet-up for adult birds for sale.
There's actually quite a few breeders both in your state and in WA state just above you, ya just gotta go looking. Especially around the states threads.
Twice a year, there is a poultry show in Stevenson, Washington. Tons of breeders from around the northwest go to it. Just go to the PNPA website to find the date. Also, if you're looking for waterfowl, you can't go wrong with the Holderreads.

Unless of course your in canada and you ask for an estimate and they reply something in the neighborhood of $400 CAD. For 1 $25 duck. Lot's of trouble and expense and red tape. Thank you, government regulations ('Has anyone unknown to you asked you to pack anything in the duck?'). So now my breeding plan is diferent...
They are a good reputable establishment though, if your not somewhere where you need $150 health papers etc....
