Hi guys, I have done a little research on how to produce a silver laced barnevelder and from what I have read you would need to add silver laced wyandotte to the line.
My question is, at what point is it no longer truly considered a barnevelder? I'm new to chickens so the only real difference I know between the two is that wyandottes have rose combs while barnevelders have single combs and wyandottes are single laced while barnies are double laced. Would those characteristics be the determining factor in what you could consider each one? Would you be able to produce a double laced wyandotte in this same manner?

The standard would tell you what is required for the breed. By adding Wyandotte body type it no longer is a Barnvelder until many generations of selecting for body type, single comb and egg color.

Are you wanting to make a silver laced Barnvelder or trying to introduce silver to make a silver penciled Barnvelder? If the latter, which is the negative of partridge, then I'd try using Silver Penciled Plymouth Rock. Closer in body type and has a single comb.

Thanks for the tip, I haven't seen a Silver Penciled Plymouth Rock before. That looks like it would work better. I'll look over breed standards and see what needs to be achieved.
