and love the username and profile pic they fit well
Yeah it is, but I lost my flock (the parents), and I have never incubated eggs before, plus some were a little older. So I wasn't planning on all of them being alive on day 10

Which they were. So now my family believes that they will all be Roosters now.

Thank you!

Good luck! Hope they aren't all roo's! lol

A couple weeks ago one of mine started trying to crow. I automatically assumed it was my 3 month old even though I didn't expect him to "crow on time" because of his delays. The second time I heard it I started to think that maybe it wasn't my older one. Found out today who it is. lol He actually outted himself as he tried it while I was in there. It was Chip (my black and white). So I have an early crower. Luckily it is one that are going to being moving to my sister's. Right now it's cute, when he gets the hang of it it's going to be loud!!! lol

Your lucky!!! I always wait to be sure till they crow and mine always wait till their 7 months-old!!!!! My last clutch I hatched I was hoping for more banty hens because I had two banty roosters and one banty hen and a bunch of larger hens but my little roosters wouldn't mate with them so my little hen had really bad treading and so I ended up with three eggs and three healthy chicks and all three were ROOSTERS!!!!!! Although I'm still very sad it worked out for the best some of my roosters died :( but my hen is doing good :)

LOL. I'd be lucky if it was one of the ones I'm still trying to figure out. 4 of them are no question roosters. 2 are going to be my coop roos the other two are going to my sister's unless I can find someone that wants them before she makes it up here. I am pretty sure one of the polish mixes is a roo, but would like better confirmation before he goes and I am still trying to figure out both silkies and my other NN plus my black and brown, which I think is a roo...now if any of them are a roo I'd be grateful for confirmation.

Since they are housing in the play room for the winter, I'd like to get as many of the roos out as soon as possible and alleviate some of the stress of cleaning and maintaining the extras. It's going to be a long winter. I don't mind brooding the chicks in home for the first few weeks, but I am really dreading this undertaking. Once my flock is established I don't think you will find me doing any start of winter incubating unless I am doing it for someone else....lol

Rooster magnet!! I know, the feeling. Everytime I figure one is a roo it's a 'there goes another potential hen'. It's frustrating. I have two I am certain are girls. And three I am hoping are. I wouldn't mind so much if there were a bigger "market" for males out there...lol But no one wants them and I hate the thought of them going on someone's table. lol I've come to terms that's what happens to most, but I still hate the thought. Once I have my flock established it won't be so bad, But just starting out, I want to get my girls matured and laying and I can't do that if I don't have the girls!

Yeah males I never give away I'm always scared their going to be eaten wait what am I saying I never give any of my birds away lol! I get to attached to them I wish you luck I'm not very good about telling gender I'm to contradicting

I'm doing pretty good on picking the roos out of the ones with single combs and wattles. (Especially when they have all roo personality and are challenging each other....lol) I've got a long way to go before I figure out the other types of combs (especially pea) and silkies...forget it. it's going to take crowing before I can figure them out...lol Now if they want to crow early, I'm all for it! lol

Lol! Yeah my silkie, polish, frizzle mix roo that passed last week

he didn't crow for the longest time
That is quite a mix!

poor guy. I believe my polish that I think is a female is Polish silkie. Well, actually it's pretty certain since it has the 5 toes and silkies are the only 5 toed breed my sister has...lol. I hope it's a she. I am loving the poof even though the poor thing can't see much out front....lol The ones I don't plan to keep I would like to crow so I know for certain, the ones I am keeping can wait till they get out to the coop...lol

I hope you find out soon that little roo I had came from a good friend of mine I wish I had some polish I would be breeding them with my ameraucana but so far I've just got mixes lol
