I started my barnyard mix flock back in December of last year. I have Red sex link and a roo that looks to be a mix himself. I have a newly hatched chick that has been apparently born with her eyes sealed shut or maybe even no eyes at all. I can say she is a fighter though she broke out of that shell with gusto. She is very laidback and calm. Is being born like this a common abnormality with mixes?

That is not normal unless you bred siblings causing a mutation or something wasn't right during the hatch and she didn't develop eyes. Are you sure she was born like that? After hatching the chicks could have pecked her eyes leading to them closing shut from swelling I have had that happen before.Either way I am highly interested could we see some pics?

No they weren't siblings. Here she is.

So I'm going to put my four chicken eggs in tomorrow! Heliotrope x Wilda = Eggs

So they will be 1/4 silver-laced Wyandotte & 3/4 polish/sizzle/unknown :clap so excited! Wish me luck!

Best of luck! I'm hoping to join you in hatching soon! Just waiting for my Phoenix bantam eggs to arrive to put in with my backyard mix eggs. :D

I am still planning on doing the Easter hatch. I haven't been able to find just showgirl/silkie eggs locally like I wanted, but I found a girl that has some nice showgirls in her flock so I will probably get a couple dozen from her and hope some of them are showgirls. She also has frizzles/sizzles, cochins, silkies, nn's of course and some other mixes, so it should be interesting to see what I get. Just can't wait until next month so I can set them!!
