If you have a flock of barnyard chickens, you'd pretty much find out you can't keep up with who is breeding who, or at least who that egg belongs too.

For several years, we had a self-sustaining flock of chicken. Started with 2 cochin roos and a couple of banty hens given to us. They were good broodys and hatched chicks regularly. When the roo population got too big, rehomed some of the 'boys', but always kept the two original roosters. So we had brother-sister, mother-son, father-daughter, and on ... who knows. They were healthy, happy, and laid a bazillon eggs.

When people develop thier own line, what do you think they do? They can't have a 'line' if they just go out each time and buy some unrelated roo or hen to breed to.

Ditto for ducks.
