That's how I got started. My original trio came from Mike Gilbert. It's a great club! There are contacts through the Chantecler club...
Beautiful birds!

Aren't Chantecler chicken supposed to have a Cushion Comb? The males in the pictures have clear wattles and rose comb(albeit small one due to them being small)
Cushion comb is the result of a Rose Comb and Pea Comb mutation combined, this produces a bird without wattle and cushion comb
Don't look like cushion comb to me, Brahma for reasons unknown to me(perhaps an allelic pea comb mutation) have rather large wattles, but Oriental birds with Pea comb or Cushion comb lack wattles completely
Wattles would be detrimental in a cold hardy breed, since we are dealing with two mutations(R and P) that segregate independently you will get P/p+, R/R and P/P, R/r+ and p+/p+, R/R combs, specially when creating new colors(due to the need to outcross to bring the color) this happens also with other cushion comb breeds like the Red Shoulder Yokohama, I've seen them with Pea comb and with Rose comb.I can certainly understand that no wattles would be better for a cold-weather breed, but it looks like the breed does include some males with wattles, and just having wattles does not prove that pea comb is missing.
What's wrong with hatching in September? I'd rather raise fall and winter babies than spring and summer ones. lolOld picture. I'm not crazy enough to hatch in September.
