Fanciful Frigid Fall Hatch-Along

I can't wait for your hatches, Cranberry and Buttercup.

Didn't you mention Dutch took a long time from his first pip to come out?
We've not had any break the shell that much and not be through the membrane. It's usually just a noticeable crack on the surface, not so much a whole piece of shell missing.

The humidity was struggling to get up in this incubator (which I noticed AFTER I started lockdown of course). It did look pretty dry where it'd pipped, so I quickly added in a warm wet paper towel, and added a little drop of coconut oil on the membrane. The chick ended up breaking right through after I re-closed the incubator! I wonder if it was struggling to poke through. Has me worried for the rest of the hatch, argh. :fl But I've read that momma hens will be off their nest for longer than that for a quick food/water break on hatch day, so hopefully I didn't hurt them by a 5 second opening. Ugh. The humidity's been RIGHT on target but just didn't seem to want to get above 65%, which it runs lower on this one so it was more like 60%. So I was able to get it up to 73% which is closer to like 68%.

Has it been 21 days already? Holy cow

Only day 19! I've calibrated our Govees, and the incubators are right on target at 99.5, but we seem to have hatches commonly hitting days 19-20 instead of 21. 😬

I was sad no Seramas pipped by the time I left this morning with the others out. I don’t want them to get bowled over! 😂 But Tomato and his Bantam siblings did great with the standards from the other batch, so fingers crossed! 🤞 I can’t WAIT to see what colors we got from these Silkies! The next go into lockdown TOMORROW!
Super EGG-citing! :celebrate
