Ok guys a quick question for ya's .

Some of the chicks ive hatched have some white on the tips of there feathers these are the first feather to come out . I know they will moult out and most likely turn to a nice buff colour what i'm wondering should i try to keep track of these chicks and at some point cull them out of my group of birds and just keep the chicks that feather up a nice even buff with out the white tip.

I'll have to use some of these for now as i don't have enough birds to breed from but at some point down the track i hope to have enough to pick from and thought if i could identify these birds i would be getting the white out of the flock.

Any comments welcome.

cheers shane

I would toe mark, wing tag ,etc for identifcation.Perhaps cull a few of the worst at maturity.I would not use the males for breeding unless they end up superior than those that do not show the defect.I suspect that defect may grow out and the better females might be worth using once. However the ones without the defect may be worth retaining and repeat using. When you get enough numbers in others years you can avoid using these and perhaps will not be getting as many anyway.Reduce and eliminate it over a few generations and you should see better color.
