Several months ago I decided I wanted to raise button quail. I ordered eggs from Acienda aviaries and hatched out 13 quail of many different colors. When interacting with the quail I noticed that some of the chicks were much more friendly and curious that the others. Most noticeably the darker, red breasted chicks. I decided to breed my red breasted pair since they were the tamest but I wasnt around to socialize them when they were young so they are still pretty flighty. The resulting offspring (both red breasted males) were the sweetest little things! They let me hold them and loved to have their chins scratched. They even came when they were called and liked to sleep on my lap. I gave the chicks to a close friend who wants to breed them to her quail. My second generation of quail hatched recently, I set four eggs, two quit early, one was too big to hatch and died in shell. One quail hatched and to my surprise, he is a very light color. Another thing that surprises me is that this chick is very shy and difficult to socialize. Has anyone else breeding buttons noticed a connection between the color of quail, and the personality?
