BREEDING FOR PRODUCTION...EGGS AND OR MEAT.

Fire Ant Farm, beautiful NH's! How's the pullets look?
You got me really wanting to try to get hatching eggs from 8acres...
I really don't need another breed though... And then those Ixworth GreenFire has now, very tempting, wonder how much $$ they're going to be...

Too much. You can count on that.

We've been fortunate enough to have gotten all of our Sulmtalers from Greenfire stocck, but got deals on the chicks and the Juves on RBA. I'd be more considerate of paying their prices if I could at *least* pick up my orders, it's silly to pay that much in shipping on top of 30 bucks a chick when they are a mere few hours from us.

If I ever need more, I'lll be trying to find other breeders.

I'm sure you'll find breeders that may even have better birds than GreenFire. Beings you bought from them them they might send you a flier in the winter on sale birds and get lucky. I've never ordered from them, but know people that have. I saw a flier they sent to one person near me (couple hr drive) that wanted to order just a couple legbars and wanted people to go in with him. I don't remember prices but I know they were a fraction of what they usually charge, they had Barbezieux at a very tempting price. I'll see if I can search and find that post.

I think it would be more fun to recreate them yourself. It says they're a mix of Sussex, Minorca, Orpington, and Indian Game (aka Cornish).

That is what I'm hoping in regards to the sales! :)

I'm also looking into the Blue Wheaten variety and they unfortunately they don't carry those.

I
That would be quite the project indeed. Although to be honest I'm not sure what today's  Orpingtons  would really add to the mix, from a production perspective. ?

I don't know what the Orps or the Minorcas would add to be honest. Frankly the Ixworth mostly look like a less muscular version of the White Cornish. That said I'm not interested in anything GFF sells.

Bah! Fickle Poultry buyers are the worst.

Someone convinced me to part with my only Wheaten Sulmtalers cockerel for a relatively good price (50$ for a 4-month old.), she "needed the breeding stock", so I offered to meet her, drove 45 with a P.O'd bird, got to our meeting place, and the girl was a no show. I'm not happy.
