Hi folks...I'm up to my earlobes with work but I thought I would drop in and deliver a couple messages.

Brother tells me he and dad get frequent PMs but have no way to respond to them since they are banned.

Brother did ask me to tell 3riverschick that all is fine and if she ever gets in a position to have the rabbits,
the offer is good. We have rabbits running out of our ears too and the kits are absolutely adorable! But I'm
a realist and know what they are on this earth for.

I'm glad to see the thread has picked up a bit of life...might have something to me realizing I was causing so
much trouble by being such an AZZ!

Dad is still in Brazil or a he writes, 'Brasil'. We think he will home by his 65th birthday... 8/30. He has young 'tutor' helping
with his Brasileiro and he will have to shake loose of her before he leaves...

Thanks for the suggestion Ron. Of course they have my email and they felt they wanted to let 3riverschick know they understand her situation but neither of them seem interested in using me as a conduit for messages on a constant basis because of my current over load but I will absolutely deliver messages they wish to send. I told Brother that I would relay any and all messages but he is reticent to 'bother' me, as he puts it.

It might be a day or two before I could get things delivered but I would gladly deliver their messages to anyone they wish to correspond with...it's up to Brother to decide to make the request and relay any responses to me for delivery.

It's been a little slow here..

Last week the family and I went camping for two nights so I decided to combine a few groups of chickens. The Rainbow Layer assortment (almost laying) went in with the laying RIR's as did the male sex link (same age as the rainbows). There are three males in with the 20 females and they are causing life to be a living hell for the females. When one get's out and I put her back in they'll pounce on her and viciously mate. The females always seem to be on the run and we don't get as many eggs as we did before. I want to get a few fertile eggs so I can learn how to incubate before I buy expensive eggs to hatch. It appears I also need to learn how to deal with roosters too. Any advice?

It is the competition between the three. They are young, full of testosterone and vigorously competing. When one see one mate, the other has to put "his" on top.
Eventually it will settle, a hierarchy will develop, and (probably) the three will split with their own. In the mean time, it will be chaos. They need plenty of room, and the pullets need to be able to escape the attention, until it settles. If it settles.
Chickens have a hard time with drastic changes. They are creatures of habit, and prefer routine. You have upset the balance, but they will find a balance again. In the mean time, you will get less eggs (from stress), and keep an eye on things to make sure nothing gets "out of hand".

I do not flock mate anymore, but when I did, the birds were free ranged and there was multiple feeders and water stations. One for eac cock bird is ideal.

They have to have plenty of space in the mean time.

I don't have much space. I was thinking of butchering a couple and only using one. Again, I'm only looking for some fertilized eggs to get some experience hatching chicks. After that I don't have any use for a male sex link. My NH's are around 8 weeks old and I'll have some more breeding males in a few months.

You could practice on them but what will you get? What size are they. 4-5 lbs? Extra meat for the freezer. Let us know how the butchering goes. Taste, weight, etc. Can't wait for your NH to get ready. I'm dying to get some. Catdaddyfro from Lafayette La is 90 min from me and has some fine German NH. Hoping to get eggs eventually.
