BREEDING FOR PRODUCTION...EGGS AND OR MEAT.

Hi Kassandra--

That begs the next question , how do I tell the diff between a splash chick and a blue chick???? ( Rooster is a pale blue; brother in a separate pen is a dark blue.) All my blue chicks have grown up to be . . . blues.
Within the first couple of weeks when they start getting their feathers you should see the splashes of color I believe. How old is this chick, do you have pics?

Nava hangs out some on the NN thread and she has splashes, some spectacular ones at that, bet they (both husband and wife use same account) could answer much better.

Quote: THanks Kassandra !! Chicklets hatched today-- so a few weeks off before knowing the outcome. Dom white does funny things-- usually leaks black flecks, or turns white feathers cream-tan, depending on the base color ( black or red) -- THAT much I have figured out.

I have one rooster from a previous year that is white, black and red.

Who ever dreamed up breeding for color was some genious who could keep all the color influences straight. I'm NO genious. lol

Looking forward to seeing vids!!!
I have taken a few during egg eating time mostly (they get really excited, little cannibals!!!!) but he does the most cute and acrobatic stuff during the times I'm not videoing. Need to pick the best one and put it on you tube so I can post it here. His comb just started standing up. I was beginning to wonder if it was going to stay flat and be odd, but nope, it is standing fully today.

I have several that were white or yellow at hatch w/o any other color, but they start getting patterning when the fluff turn to feathers, some dramatically darker then I ever thought based on fluff. The only ones I ever had stay pure white were from my white EE hens, but both of those girls are gone now.
