BREEDING FOR PRODUCTION...EGGS AND OR MEAT.

OK...I'll put it another way...I HAVE ENEMIES. When I first sighed up here, I pumped heads with some of the more powerful folks. My contention that chickens were here to be used as food for a very long time and those who show birds for a hobby came to the dance quite late.

After being put in the 'penalty box' a few times, I decided to simply start this Production thread. I don't even discourage SOP folks who wish to post here...many of them do provide some very important information but I can't stand back and have someone tell me that I'm wrong for crossing breeds for my own purposes. It would be one thing if I tried to sell birds that are cross-bred as a pure breed but I don't....I I rarely even sell chickens, unless we're doing a
wholesale clearance' as has happened a couple times in the past year...

So...there you have it!!

LOL! I post pictures of my chickens on Facebook quite often. Recently, instead of my cute chicks photos I posted this one:

This was one of my non-breeding quality Bielefelder cockerels. He was delicious! And about half a dozen people messaged me, scolding me on how horrible I am for killing my chickens for food. Another two dozen asked when I'm having them over for dinner.

Right there is the reason why I refrain from joining a sikie thread. Those who raise silkies as second children might not care much for my breeding plans of developing a heavier meatier silkie fibro meat breed :)
There was a few threads discussing giant silkies, people wanting them but I didn't find anyone that actually found any, threads had few posts and were old and dead.

OMG! Thank you for saying this! I had to unsubscribe to the Silkie thread after asking if they taste any different from other chickens.

@hellbender When I try to post pics on BYC with my phone or tablet sometimes I can't get them to go. I found if I edit the pic by cropping it to the exact same size the edited pics load first try..?

I think I literally just drooled a bit. THAT. That looks heavenly.

It's not so easy to unsubscribe when it happens face to face...

Me: I've eaten some of them, tastes pretty good...

Person: either

doesn't help much pointing out they ARE chickens.........................

But yeah...I'm pretty sure I'm going to lose a few friends over the quest for tasty and productive animals XD

Partially because I'm looking at rabbits, too lol. Partially because I know a lot of people who are totally against eating animals

What, you butchered, dressed and cooked that? And you're new to the hobby... very impressed! That's a way better looking carcass than I produce, lol!

I agree that looks SO delicious... can I stop by sometime...? ;)

@DesertChic, That does look yummy!
Those in disapproval probably get their chicken from the store where no innocent animals are harmed? :)
I just read through the silkie threads for a little bit when I got mine and decided 'nope, not discussing raising them for meat here!' Lol :)
