BREEDING FOR PRODUCTION...EGGS AND OR MEAT.

:yuckyuck I hope you understand that we show goat people have a habit of spinning myths about the earless lamancha correct?

Well you have to admit they do look odd! Freaked me out when I saw the first ones, I thought their ears had been hacked  off with a rusty knife too- I was greatly relieved when someone told me they are born like that!!!  LOL

PS: Actually "Beaver Tails"  are a kind of pastry ...............  so if you are visiting up here, feel free to order one off the menu!

Back to bantams: They certainly can lay a huge egg in proportion to their size. I'd also be interested in hearing about any bantams bred for egg production- haven't read anything about that.

hmmm... who remembers the name of the chicken that only comes in bantam?? An old breed so perhaps it was bred for laying...

So miss heny there's a true bantam bred for egg laying? Didn't know that. That would be a very useful chicken indeed. I did look into spangled hamburgs once, even the standards are pretty small and they are said to lay lots of eggs (at least they used to). The campines are said to lay large eggs for a small breed but do those come in bantam size?

Our Sergames are awesome layers themselves, never stopped laying even in winter and at 4 years old still going.

If you want I can gladly speak to you more about it, I adore bantams and finding out swedish hens can be on the rather small side natural made me giddy
