BREEDING FOR PRODUCTION...EGGS AND OR MEAT.

Same with the Cochin thread.

You would have thought I was talking about eating human babies when I asked if anyone was breeding Cochins for a bigger, meaty carcass. I was told Cochins were strictly pets and were NOT for eating and that~basically~ I was just there on that thread to hurt and antagonize people.

I was being dead serious! I had the chance to butcher out a Cochin rooster and thought their frame worthy of packing on more meat, as they seem to have good depth and width, just not a lot of density.

You don't happen to know or could hazard a guess as to what hatchery TSC would have gotten the Silkies from up your way?

IDK, thought it was Ideal, can't find it now, wherever it was the reviews said they were larger than standard, and they are supposed to be poor layers, mine lay better than the b leghorns I have. Got disappointed in some NN cemani crosses I was supposed to get last yr, didn't work out, I was going to get the non NN ones, poor hatches and weasel killed her rooster, only had one pullet for me and some non fibro roosters, didn't want to drive a hour for that. So I bought the silkies I never wanted. I was going to go for giant silkie crosses, still going to try it for one hatch if giant doesn't squish silkies, was going to go the other way, but I can't spare a pullet, so I culled the silkie rooster who has been insane crowing all night long for months..!!! Getting them all crowing both coops like a contest all night long!! been quite lately...If you want some giant silkie cross eggs let me know, I'll have to hatch some out to see if any come out fibro, don't know what I'll do with them probably just eat them. I've decided to go a different direction for fibro, cemani NN myself, for NN fibro, Have a source for cheap pure cemani culls not to far from me..

If your set on big silkies, IDK who it was, but someone gave me a source recently that's here on BYC for a cross of silkie with cochin, and has been breeding for silkie traits, but big.

Don't say ANYTHING about using them for meat or they'll kill you, or so I've heard. They LOVE their silkies alot.

ABSOLUTELY the silky thread is a PET thread, keep that in mind when posting, you could be burned at the stake for eating them.
