I think the "hatred" for corn is irrational. Nothing is better at doing what is does.

My interest in Sorghum is similar to the reasons that you have. I live on a sand ridge, the old coast line.

Tannins seams to have been the big holdback with sorghum, as you know. Their are more options without this problem now. The new varieties are going to change things, I think.

That is what poultry keepers should consider before they purchase sorghum. It is not all the same.

I know which hybrid is suitable for our area~ it might be worth trying out. Is this something available in small quantities to the general public? I can't find a single source using the brand/hybrid name (which is actually just a few letters and numbers).

Living in the deep south, sorghum is used greatly for chicken feed. I bet the feed store would have info of the new kind. I read that 99% of sorghum grown in the US is the new low tannin kind.

Other sources may be any major brand of corn seed or seed supplier like Seedway. Alta Seeds would would likely be available through your local feed/seed store. If it's like forage sorghum, a bag may cost in the $60-$100 range and would cover around 6 acres. Compared to corn seed, I'm spending $200+ per bag which only covers 2.5 acres. But then my corn seed has all the extra 'technology'.

I'm thinking you'll have to go by that the roosters parents (hen) done as far a egg production.

I'm always interested in new sites and products. And I'm interested in creating a ration that will allow me to keep away from buying crumbles. This site has several good areas to research how to do it. And samples of all different kinds.. Maybe subbing sorghum with maize, just thinking.......
