BREEDING FOR PRODUCTION...EGGS AND OR MEAT.

Aren't most of them cute? Lol. I guess you can only eat them while they molt XD

I like the look of most breeds, but I think a lot of people see silkies as fluffy pets and "regular" chickens as farm animals/food.
Though you make a good point, it might be good to harvest while the bird is already half-plucked.

It's a Vietnamese breed. They are raised for their delicious "dragon legs."

They are to the Vietnamese what the Bresse are to the French. They are in danger of extinction, though still somewhat popular with show breeders because of the unusual looks. Many have tried importing them to the States, or anywhere outside of Vietnam, but apparently (and I am not sure on this, it is according to something I read once) the Vietnamese government protects and controls them, and export is illegal. Impossible, according to many. But since we did get some Bresse exported from France and that was considered impossible too... maybe one day soon they will be in the US. Who knows?

They are called by many names, Dong Tao being one of them.

I've seen chickens with big fat feet before but I don't think I ever seen those!
There was a episode of 'Chopped' on food network that one of the mystery ingredients was chicken feet. According to the judge's the proper way to serve them is with toe nails cut off, only one of the four chefs did that.
