I would check to see if they can take Texas heat. They are Canadian after all.
ronott....trust me...it gets just about as hot in vast parts of Canada as it does in Texas, but you are correct...you have to be prepared to keep them comfortable in extremes of heat...no matter where you live. Being cold-hardy is one of the Chantecler's primary claims to fame.
For out right, overall hardiness...I've found the NNs and Dark Cornish fill the bill pretty well but I want other birds too, so I have to make accommodations for them...
