BREEDING FOR PRODUCTION...EGGS AND OR MEAT.

I am making most money selling chicks. I made $20.00 on my first order of 8. I have a $60.00 dollar order and another $20.00 dollar order and a few smaller ones. The ducks are the ones making the real money..
Glad that you are spending your time doing something worthwhile..! keep up the good work!

That's great! I just paid some 'real money' getting 3 young birds to my farm with plans to get more from the same source.

Speaking of ducks, we are still planning/preparing to get a bunch of Moscovies (white) soon. It's a pain in the butt, having to drive all the way to get them because the breeders simply will NOT ship and I do understand their policy.

EDIT: I got my ID numerals from Linda over the weekend and I'm very happy with them!!!

Yep! I am with you.Red pen all the way. The boss told me that it is cheaper to buy chicks for $6 each rather than hatching them out with the electricity and all.. I would agree since I would have better luck trying to hatch out a pot of gold than hatch out chicks. I am currently hatching out welsummer chicks and my ratio has been 3 hatched out of 15 that went into lockdown. I just might go to the feed store and add 10 more chicks to make my hatch look better.. LOL

@holm25 I ordered mangel seeds through R.H.Shumway, best deal I could find. I've been looking into saving my own seeds using only open pollinated plants. Looks about impossible with most, so much cross pollinates, cabbage, kale, broccoli, cauliflower etc all crosses, carrots with wild queens anne's lace, corns difficult cause you have to grow lots of it and save seeds randomly every so many plants for genetic diversity, then it can cross with farmers corn. Tomatoes are a possibility, if your neighbors aren't growing any. All squash and pumpkins cross. I might save some seeds, have to delve into it further.
Our 13yr old wants to be a veterinarian, she probably will, loves animals and is doing super great in school. I plan on getting her involved with caponizing this summer when the time comes. Will be a learning experience for both of us and good for her if she does get into that field.
Are you familiar with the original 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' movie? The actor that played Charlie never acted again after that movie. He's a farm veterinarian here in upstate NY.

I love Muscovy's! They are big ducks! I have a pair of Lilacs that I will be hatching from this year!

U would let your family starve?

Well they can live with the thought then that they killed my animals and then I will starve to death and they can eat me but I would never kill my animals to survive I would rather die a slow painful death than put my animals through that

Only a person who has never been truly hungry would make a statement like this!

Ya well I would seriously never kill my animals then if I have to I will end my suffering I will not do that to my animals my animals can free range and find there own food like bugs grass
