BREEDING FOR PRODUCTION...EGGS AND OR MEAT.

I must report that our dad (hellbender) will be indisposed  for the near future and will not be able to visit the threads he enjoys so much on this site.

Jason, thank you for checking in to let us know, and let him know he is missed and we are all thinking of him.

Sure missing Hellbender. Praying for a speedy and full recovery.

Yeah, it's BAD. I have 63 birds right now. Waaaaaay over what I want to be keeping. So I should cull the Lavender cockerel.

But but but... he's LAVENDER!!!!!!!!!

He would NEVER be forgotten!!!!! You are always most welcome here, either under his username or your own... And arguing with yourself would certainly be amusing...

Could someone help me understand the genetics behind clean necked Naked Necks? Full NNs still have a wee bowtie - is there an additional modifier gene? I wish I could get this trait in my flock, but wondering how to make that happen...

Seriously, I'm afraid of how many more I have that I've yet to count...and my Dolly mama hasn't hatched hers yet.

I'm still trying to figure out how to fit a Lavender Australorp into my mix.

I now have a pressure canner---I will be "downsizing" the layers and "up sizing" my pantry soon.....

@canadianbuckeye,Is your chick a slow grow type? I raise my chicks with 30% gamebird starter and vitamin mixed in the water. They are in an aquarium until 18 days when I move them out to the farm

It's very easy to over do them in a pressure cooker. Will you be canning or just cooking?
I've had many come out perfect, and some turn to meat soup riddled with little bones.

I pressure cook them all the time. I want to pressure can the old hens.

I can't wait to see how they turn out.
